Romania is surrounded by countries with higher Suicide Rate: Hungary has the 4th position, Ukraine, the 8th, Republic of Moldavia, the 17th, Bulgaria, the 18th position. Objective: To compare the role of multiculturalism on behavioural patterns of suicide and deliberate self harm in different geographical area of Romania. Methods: The research collected the data on demography, psychopathology and quality of life of suicidal persons in the last 10 years, in 44 counties of Romania. The Multicultural Quality of Life Index was applied to persons belonging to different ethnic groups. Results: The demographic data obtained by the last Romanian census showed that the National suicide ratio varies from 33 100, 000 inhabitants to 5 100, 000 inhabitants. It was also demonstrated the relation between the highest suicide rate and the prevalence of Hungarian population in Harghita, Covasna, Satu-Mare counties and of Slavic population in Salaj and Tulcea counties. The lowest suicide ratio was registered in the counties with a Romanian non-mixed population in about 30 counties but the epidemiology of psychiatric illnesses didn't explain the significant differences between suicide ratio among the Romanian and Hungarian population. The cultural identity among Hungarian and Slavic ethnic groups was significantly correlated with the behavioural pattern of deliberate self-harm. Conclusions: The mortality rate determined by suicide has a significant correlation with the belonging of the Hungarian or Slavic ethnic group.
