The Early Hearing Detection and Intervention EHDI ; program at the MS State Department of Health is making a concerted effort this year to reach as many primary care providers as possible. The desire is to educate the medical community regarding the Mississippi Newborn Hearing Screening Program and the role of the medical home in facilitating early identification and intervention of hearing loss. The goal of the EHDI program to identify congenital hearing loss in children by three months of age and to initiate appropriate intervention by six months of age. It is well documented that children who receive intervention by 6 months have a significantly improved chance of developing normal speech and language ability. This has a tremendous impact on social emotional and cognitive development as well as future academic success. Unfortunately, while the vast majority of infants in Mississippi are screened, only about 60% are receiving the needed followup services and terbutaline. It is against the law to cultivate, possess, use, sell or supply cannabis. It is also against the law to possess pipes and other implements on which there are detectable traces of cannabis. While the possession of small amounts of cannabis is still an offence it can now be dealt with by issuing a Cannabis Infringement Notice CIN ; . If a person receives a CIN and pays the financial penalty or attends a Cannabis Education Session CES ; , the person will not be required to appear in court and will not incur a criminal record. The Cannabis Infringement Notice CIN ; Scheme The Cannabis Infringement Notice CIN ; Scheme enables police, at their discretion, to issue an infringement notice for possession of small amounts of cannabis. People who receive a CIN will be required to pay a financial penalty within 28 days, complete a Cannabis Education Session within 28 days or choose to have the matter heard in court. There is a limit to the number of times within a three-year period that a person who is issued with a CIN may choose to pay a financial penalty rather than complete a CES or go to court. A person who is issued with one or more CINs on each of three separate days within a three-year period will be required on the third and any subsequent occasion to attend a Cannabis Education Session or go to court, and will not be eligible to pay a financial penalty. If police have relevant evidence, a person found in possession of a small amount of cannabis could still be charged with the more serious offence of possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply. People under 18 years-of-age cannot be issued with a CIN under the CIN Scheme. Under the Young Offenders Act 1994, young people aged 10 to 17 years inclusively ; who are found growing, in possession of, or using cannabis within the limits set by the CIN Scheme may be cautioned or referred to a Juvenile Justice Team.
Role of the chemerin-ChemR23 axis in the recruitment of plasmacytoid dendritic cells in psoriatic skin C Albanesi1, C Scarponi1, S Pallotta1, R Daniele2, D Bosisio2, P Fortugno1, S Madonna1, S Gonzalvo-Feo3, O De Pit1, G Girolomoni4, S Sozzani2 1IDI-IRCCS, Rome, Italy 2 University of Brescia, Brescia, Italy 3Istituto Clinico Humanitas, Rozzano, Italy 4 University of Verona, Verona, Italy Human plasmacytoid dendritic cells pDCs ; constitute a cell subset characterized by plasma cell morphology and a unique surface phenotype CD4 + , CD45RA + , CD123 + , BDCA-2 + , BDCA-4 + , CD62L + , CLA + , CD11c- ; . Upon viral stimulation, but also during certain noninfectious inflammatory conditions, pDCs differentiate into a mature DC phenotype associated with the production of massive amounts of IFN-a and the ability to induce T cell activation. Recently, pDCs have been suggested to have a key functional role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. pDC recruitment is crucially governed by the chemotactic factor chemerin and its receptor counterpart ChemR23. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the chemerin ChemR23 axis could be involved in pDC positioning in skin affected by psoriasis. CD123 + and BDCA-2 + ChemR23 + pDCs were detected in psoriatic lesions during the early phase of the disease development, in coincidence with the massive presence of CD15 + neutrophils in the papillary dermis. Conversely, ChemR23 + pDC infiltration was strongly decreased or absent at later phases of the disease. Infiltration of ChemR23 + pDCs was associated with strong chemerin expression by dermal fibroblasts, mast cells and endothelial cells. Cultured fibroblasts isolated from skin of psoriatic lesions constitutively expressed chemerin mRNA, whereas chemerin expression was barely detectable in fibroblasts obtained from healthy or uninvolved psoriatic skin. Interestingly, supernatants of fibroblasts isolated from lesional, but not from uninvolved, psoriatic skin induced pDC transmigration in vitro, in a ChemR23-dependent fashion. As a whole, these data indicate that chemerin ChemR23 axis is involved in the recruitment of pDC in the early phase of psoriasis development. REPORT OF INDEPENDENT REGISTERED PUBLIC ACCOUNTING FIRM Board of Directors and Shareholders of SCOLR Pharma, Inc. We have audited management's assessment, included in Management's Report on Internal Control Over Financial Reporting included in Item 9A in this annual report, that SCOLR Pharma, Inc. did not maintain effective internal control over financial reporting as of December 31, 2005 because of the effect of the material weakness identified in management's assessment, based on criteria established in Internal Control--Integrated Framework issued by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission COSO ; . SCOLR Pharma, Inc.'s management is responsible for maintaining effective internal control over financial reporting and for its assessment of the effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting. Our responsibility is to express an opinion on management's assessment and an opinion on the effectiveness of the company's internal control over financial reporting based on our audit. We conducted our audit in accordance with the standards of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board United States ; . Those standards require that we plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether effective internal control over financial reporting was maintained in all material respects. Our audit included obtaining an understanding of internal control over financial reporting, evaluating management's assessment, testing and evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of internal control, and performing such other procedures as we considered necessary in the circumstances. We believe that our audit provides a reasonable basis for our opinions. A company's internal control over financial reporting is a process designed to provide reasonable assurance regarding the reliability of financial reporting and the preparation of financial statements for external purposes in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. A company's internal control over financial reporting includes those policies and procedures that 1 ; pertain to the maintenance of records that, in reasonable detail, accurately and fairly reflect the transactions and dispositions of the assets of the company; 2 ; provide reasonable assurance that transactions are recorded as necessary to permit preparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, and that receipts and expenditures of the company are being made only in accordance with authorizations of management and directors of the company; and 3 ; provide reasonable assurance regarding prevention or timely detection of unauthorized acquisition, use, or disposition of the company's assets that could have a material effect on the financial statements. Because of its inherent limitations, internal control over financial reporting may not prevent or detect misstatements. Also, projections of any evaluation of effectiveness to future periods are subject to the risk that controls may become inadequate because of changes in conditions, or that the degree of compliance with the policies or procedures may deteriorate. A material weakness is a control deficiency, or combination of control deficiencies, that results in more than a remote likelihood that a material misstatement of the annual or interim financial statements will not be prevented or detected. The following material weakness has been identified and included in management's assessment: The Company did not maintain appropriate control to provide reasonable assurance that complex transactions are appropriately accounted for or that all disclosure requirements under generally accepted accounting principles are fulfilled. In this regard, the Company's processes are not sufficient to ensure that appropriate consideration is given to the accounting implications of such transaction, that accounting conclusions regarding these transactions are analyzed and documented, or that all relevant financial statement disclosures required under generally accepted accounting principles are provided. Furthermore, the number of accounting personnel with sufficient experience is insufficient to ensure that the preparation and review of accounting analysis relating to such transactions is performed by different individuals. 33 and benazepril.

RSV has been implicated as the primary cause of infant pneumonia, which results in nearly 100, 000 hospitalizations per annum. By age two, all individuals will have contracted RSV, with reinfection common. Approximately 17, 000 deaths per year in the US are attributed to RSV infection. Among the more high risk groups are premature births, immunocompromised individuals, and the elderly. In addition, it has been hypothesized that RSV may be responsible for acute ear infections which do not respond to antibiotic treatment, and may also play a role in the development of childhood asthma. This presentation will describe a series of novel, potent RSV fusion inhibitors, with specific emphasis on the synthesis, structure-activity relationships and MAP properties of compounds with an isatin oxime motif. Development of this series ultimately yielded molecules with acceptable HLM stability, CACO permeability and in vivo efficacy and terbutaline.
